| Notes: | Data shown here are for calendar year 2008 and include the number of prescription drugs filled at retail pharmacies only. Data are based on Verispan's Vector One(TM) database which collects data from a panel of retail pharmacies, third party payers, and data providers. Retail pharmacies include independent pharmacies, chain pharmacies, food stores, and mass merchandisers found in 814 defined regional zones. These totals include prescriptions filled at pharmacies only and a small portion of over-the-counter medications and repackagers and exclude those filled by mail order. Retail prescriptions filled by mail order totaled 238 million or 6.7% of total prescriptions filled in 2007 according to industry statistics reported by The National Association of Chain Drug Stores (http://www.nacds.org/wmspage.cfm?parm1=6536).
Verispan's Vector One (TM) database reflects activity on prescription drugs and on a small portion of over-the-counter (OTC) and repackaged medications purchased at pharmacy cash registers.
Data exclude 13,875,469 prescriptions whose gender was unspecified. |
