Notes:

State data based upon the BRFSS, an ongoing, state-based, random-digit-dialed telephone survey of noninstitutionalized civilian adults aged 18 years and older.
State figures are age-adjusted to the U.S. population in 2000.
National data based upon the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS), an ongoing health survey of the civilian, noninstitutionalized, household population of the United States.
National figures were age-adjusted using estimates of the 2000 U.S. population as the standard.
Figures may not sum exactly due to rounding.
Women who indicated that they had diabetes only during pregnancy were not included in these data.
