Connecticut was unable to break out health care expenditure for juveniles and adults in the adult corection system; note, therefore, that expenditures for this item include both mental health forensic inpatient expenditures for those found not guilty by reason of insanity and committed to the care and custody of the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Sevices' Whiting Forensic Division.
  2. Iowa amount does not include information from the Community Based Correction Institutions.
  3. Oklahoma expenditures for inmate medical care (including substance abuse treatment) provided by the Department of Corrections, University Hospital Authority, and the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.
  4. Oklahoma juvenile expenditures as reported by the Office of Juvenile Affairs
  5. Pennsylvania has a dual juvenile system with about half the youth being maintained in county or private facilities. The state shares in the health care cost through grants to county child welfare programs but the amount is unknown.
